Igneous rocks of Edinburgh: Arthur’s Seat

Explore the geology of Arthur’s Seat and Holyrood Park in a guided walking tour with Angus Miller. A circuit of Holyrood Park taking in all the geological highlights, drilling down through the layers of the extinct volcano to explore different parts of the volcanic complex. We’ll walk across lava flows on Whinny Hill, dive into the crater area in the slopes of Arthur’s Seat, and circle back around to our starting point along the top of Salisbury Crags – giving us superb views over the city of Edinburgh and a wider perspective on the geological history of Edinburgh.

I have classified this as a moderate walk, on rough paths with climbing and some steps. It may be rough or slippery underfoot at times. It may be wet, windy or cold. Come equipped with strong footwear, waterproof clothing and something to eat and drink. Duration 3 hours, distance 6 km.
